Joliet Slammers win fourth straight

Joliet, IL – The Joliet Slammers kicked off the second half by sweeping the Lake Eerie Crushers over the weekend and returned home to take on the Gateway Grizzlies. Gateway sent Ja'Vaun West to the bump opposed by Tyler House for Joliet.
The Slammers looking to win 4 straight quickly fell behind after Ramon Osuna doubled to make it 1-0 in the first inning. House settled down and pitched a scoreless 2nd and Edwin Gomez clubbed his 6th home run to tie the game at 1-1. The Grizzlies pounced on House and the Slammers found themselves down 7-1 in the 6th inning. Back to back RBI singles from Gomez and Travis Bolin got the Slammers closer, but still down by a wide margin.
West had dominated the Slammers and once Joliet got to the Grizzlies bullpen they knew they had a chance to chip away. Newly acquired Dom Iero secured his first hit as a Slammer after launching a rocket over the right field wall to lead off the 7th and Josh Merrigan scored all the way from first on a past ball and a errant throw to third basemen Evan Rogers. Joliet came within 3 runs but the Grizzlies didn't go down easy as they got a run in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th.
The Slammers and their never say die attitude loaded the bases in the 9th inning to bring the tying run to the plate in Rock Shoulders. With the crowd on their feet and Joliet down to their final out Shoulders absolutely mashed a grand slam over the right-center field wall to send Slammers' Stadium up for grabs to tie the game at 10.
Confessor Lara was leaned on and pitched a scoreless 10th and 11th inning and with all eyes on Travis Bolin and a crowd on their feet and the infield in he hit a slow roller to the short stop Joel McKeithan who fired home but it was too late as the Slammers walk off for the 2nd time this season and secure their 4th straight victory and kickoff this home stand with a bang. The Slammers walk-off victory finished with a final score of 11-10.
Confessor Lara gets the victory and Kyle Uhrich receives the loss.
Rock Shoulders is the player of the game with the game tying grand slam in the 9th inning.
Game 2 is set for 10:05am on Wednesday, July 19, as Alec Kisena for the Grizzlies opposes Duke Von Schamann of Joliet.
