Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy aimed to take game 3 after splitting last night's double header against the Southern Illinois Miners. Matt Parish made his second start for the Miners as Illinois native Tyler House got the nod for the Slammers.

Parish pitched 7 scoreless innings in his Miners' debut, but Joliet's hot offense pounced as they got a sac fly from Spencer Navin followed by a 3-run home run from Danny Zardon. Melvin Rodriguez followed him up with a majestic home run over the right field foul pole as they go back-to-back. Shortstop Luis Diaz picked up his first hit as a Slammer, doubling off the wall in left field to score Travis Bolin as the Slammers posted 6 runs in the first inning.

Corey Sessions entered to start the 2nd inning for the Miners as Parish lasted only one inning and House settled in nicely on the rubber. Ryan Lashley got the Miners into the hit column in the 2nd with a solo home run. Southern Illinois added more runs to chip away after RBI's from Romeo Cortina, Nolan Early, and Zack Taylor.

The Miners tried to creep ahead but Danny Zardon proved why he was an All-Star by ripping a 2-run two out double off the left center field wall to score a pair.

Edwin Gomez provided the mic-drop in the bottom of the 8th as Gomez launched a frozen rope over the wall in right-center for the 2nd grand slam of the home stand.

The Miners rallied in the 9th inning, but Gibson Russ was able to shut the door as the Slammers have won 3 consecutive series since the All Star break.

After an off day tomorrow the Slammers head to take on the Gateway Grizzlies before returning home Friday night at 7:05.
