The Joliet Slammers fell short in their attempt this weekend to dethrone the visiting first-place Schaumburg Boomers.

Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy looked to dethrone the visiting first place Schaumburg Boomers. With the wind blowing across from left to right the bipolar weather conditions continued with winds from the west averaging 17mph and temperatures in the upper 60s.

In the rubber game the Slammers sent LHP Joe Ortiz to the mound against RHP Preston Jamison. Slammers struck first after an RBI single from catcher Steve Pollakov (2). Both clubs would score 4 more runs in their half of the 2nd inning with RBI doubles from Seth Spivey for the Boomers and CJ Needam of the Slammers.

The offensive explosion continued from Schaumburg as they chased Joe Ortiz after 4 1/3 and managed to continue their run forcing Manager Jeff Isom to use 4 pitchers to complete the game. Rock Shoulders continued his success at the plate with an double in the 6th inning picking up his 12th RBI.

Designated Hitter Marc Flores continued to hit into hard outs, but connected for a lead-off shot over the right field wall to start the bottom of the 9th inning, but Boomers’ closer Jake Joyce finished the game in a non-save situation for Schaumburg who went on to win by the final of 18-10.

Joe Ortiz (1-1) receives the loss for Joliet as Preston Jamison (1-0) gets the victory for Schaumburg.

The Slammers are off tomorrow and will resume play Tuesday night at 7:05 against the visiting Evansville Otters.
