Romeoville athletes win at Senior Olympics

The Romeoville Recreation Department’s Golden Age Club had 33 athletes participate in the Illinois Senior Olympics in Springfield this September.
The Springfield Park District and The Illinois Senior Olympic Advisory Board invited all men and women 50 years and older to participate in over 30 event categories and team sports.
Romeoville’s athletes ranged from 52 to 89 years of age and brought home 43 gold medals, 33 silver medals, and 30 bronze medals for events including basketball free throws, mini golf, bowling, table tennis, shuffleboard, casting, track and field, and horseshoes.
The next event for seniors in Romeoville is the 30th Annual Senior Bowling Olympics at Strike ‘N Spare in Lockport.
All seniors ages 50 years and older are welcome to play on November 3 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
The event includes three games of scratch bowling, awards and lunch. Register by October 23 at the Recreation Center at 900 W. Romeo Road, Romeoville, IL.
The Romeoville Golden Age Club meets every Thursday at the Recreation Center from noon to 4:00pm. Transportation is available by calling a minimum of 48 hours beforehand. Members must be 55 years young to join. The group hosts multiple fundraisers a year including a Bunco night, multiple Bake Sales, selling Raffle Tickets at different events, and the Romeofest Bingo Tent.
