Annual Teen Poetry Contest at White Oak Library District

The White Oak Library District is pleased to announce the 2018 Teen Poetry Contest that will run through the month of April.

The contest is open to all teens in grades 6th – 12th. Participants may submit up to three poems. Entry forms are available in the teen room at all branches of the White Oak Library District. Poems must be an original work, but may be of any subject matter, type, or style. All poetry should be no longer than 2,500 words. All entries must be submitted by Tuesday, April 30th when the library closes at 8:30pm.

This year White Oak Library District is joining with Lockport Poetry Project led by Samuel Love who will publish and distribute winning poems as public art during unLOCK: Merging Art and Industry in Downtown Lockport, an NEA grant funded project of the Gaylord Building, in which the Library is participating. All poems will require permission to publish.

Free Hearing Screenings

The White Oak Library District will be offering free Hearing Screenings from Connect Hearing at its Lockport Branch Library, at 121 E. 8th Street, Lockport, IL 60441.

Get a FREE Hearing Screening at the library! To sign-up for an appointment please contact the Adult Services desk at 815-552-4260. Walk in appointments may be available. Must be 18 years or older.

The FREE Hearing Screenings will be offered on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm, in the 2nd floor Large Study Room, at our Lockport Branch Library, 121 E. 8th Street, Lockport, IL 60441.

Get Involved! White Oak Library to host Volunteer Fair

Looking to get involved with your community and find a way to give something back? Meet with several organizations and find your path to being a volunteer.

In an effort to pair patrons with a variety of local organizations in need of volunteers, the White Oak Library Crest Hill branch will be hosting its first annual Volunteer Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 pm, Saturday, April 14 at the White Oak Library Crest Hill Branch, 20670 Len Kubinski Drive, Crest Hill, 60403.

Whether you are a senior who would like to connect with those in your community; a teen who needs to complete community service hours; or a family looking to do something meaningful together---all are welcome to attend.

More than 15 Will-County area groups will be on hand to chat about their needs, answer specific questions and relay how volunteers can sign up and help out.

“Create a Fabric Plate” program

The White Oak Library District is pleased to present the “Create a Fabric Plate” program at its Lockport Branch Library, at 121 E. 8th Street, Lockport, IL 60441.

Create your own Fabric Plate using clear glass plates, fabric, and ModPodge glue. All materials provided. Choose from a selection of pretty spring fabrics. Adds a unique, festive note to your dinner table or use as a decoration anywhere. For adults & teens. Registration required.

The “Create a Fabric Plate” program will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm, on the 2nd Floor, Meeting Rooms A&B, at our Lockport Branch Library, 121 E. 8th Street, Lockport, IL 60441.
