The Joliet Central High School Speech team took 3rd place out of 12 schools at the Morris High School Speech Tournament on December 1, 2018. Central’s team was led by senior Hanna Hagerty who was a double tournament champion in Dramatic Duet Acting with junior Johnna Grimm and in Dramatic Interpretation.

Johnna Grimm also took 2nd place in Humorous Duet Acting with junior Anthony Stockton. Senior Kiara Brown placed 2nd in Original Oratory and 3rd in Impromptu Speaking, sophomore Tammy Thompson was second in Humorous Interpretation, and junior Jonathan Perkins was 5th place in Special Occasion Speaking. Freshmen duo Keegan Srebro and Latrell McCullum were the top novice team in Humorous Duet Acting, and novice competitor Eli Becker took top novice in Prose Reading.

“With such a young team, we are very proud of all of the hard work they have put in,” said Ashley Samsa, Assistant Speech Coach. “Every member of the team contributes to the team’s overall place, whether they earned an individual medal or not, and every single student should be proud of themselves for not only performing and speaking publicly, but for doing it well.”
