VVSD’s future engineers compete at middle school STEMCathlon

What can you do with foam pipe insulation, blue painter’s tape, a cup, and some metal balls?
If you were a contestant in the annual VVSD Middle School STEMCathlon, your challenge would be to turn those items into a ski jump. The skip jump was just one of the seven disciplines presented to teams representing VVSD’s five middle schools at the 2019 STEMCathlon.
The team from Lukancic Middle School (in left photo above) emerged victorious, as their effort was anchored by wins in the catapult build and the tower build. We give a special thank you to the VVSD high school students and staff who conducted the STEMCathlon, and to our friends from ComEd who served as judges for the event.
