Four Joliet West High School Math Team members qualified to advance to the State Math Competition after competing against eight other high schools in the Regional Math Competition at Joliet Junior College on Saturday, February 23, 2019. The Joliet West Math Team is coached by Dan Spradley, Head Coach, and Danielle Perez, Assistant Coach.
For a student to advance as an individual, they must score in the top five scores in the written competition at Regionals.
Senior Mary Pelzer qualified to compete in Pre-Calculus, junior Summit Kumar qualified to compete in Algebra II, sophomore Robert Fry qualified to compete in Geometry, and freshman Sean Zarobsky qualified to compete in Algebra.
Coach Spradley said, "We are fortunate this year to have a number of students with tremendous mathematical talent. These four students are able to walk into almost any math competition and finish strong." JTHS congratulates the Joliet West Math Team for their success and wishes them the best as they proceed to the State Competition on May 4, 2019 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
