Thank you to everyone that participated in the Joliet Public Schools District 86 fourth annual Autism Awareness 5K Run/Walk. Despite the raining conditions, more than 400 people supported the fundraiser held recently at Joliet Junior College. The top finishers included (from left to right) Nate Brinkoetter of Naperville, Jeff Rainford of Plainfield, and Julietta Contreras, a student at Hufford Junior High School. Student Services Coordinator Dwayne Williams and Superintendent Dr. Theresa Rouse congratulated the winners. The Dirksen School Quadrant (Dirksen, Marycrest, Pershing, and Thigpen Schools) won the best headgear trophy. The event, as well as fundraisers at the Joliet McDonald’s and Chiptotle Mexican Grill, raised $9,750.71 for the student autism programs at Marycrest Early Childhood Center, Taft Elementary, and Hufford Junior High Schools.
