2019 Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade
9/16/2019, 9:13 p.m.
Plainfield – The 2019 Plainfield Community Homecoming Parade is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th, 2019. The event will cause traffic congestion and delays in and around Plainfield, as well as Plainfield Central High School. Unless participating in or viewing the parade, motorists may want to avoid the downtown area on Saturday morning between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 12 noon due to slower traffic movement and road closures.
Starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28th,
Police will begin closing Ottawa Street between Van Dyke Road and Ira Jones Middle School. Ira Jones Middle School and Village Center Drive near the Village Hall will also become controlled access for parade entries.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. police will close the following roadways:
o IL Route 126 (Lockport Street & Main Street) from Wallin Drive to Route 59
o Van Dyke Road south of Lockport Street to Ottawa Street
o James Street from Lockport Street to Fort Beggs Drive
o Lockport Street from Main Street to Route 59
o Illinois Street between Main Street and Lockport Street
o Des Plaines Street between Main Street and Lockport Street
o Fox River Street at Lockport Street
o Fort Beggs Drive between James Street and Route 59
o Vista Lane at James Street (both sides)
No traffic lanes on Route 59 will be closed, however motorists should be advised that traffic congestion and delays are expected. All roads are expected to re-open around Noon.
NEW PARADE ROUTE
Due to construction around the Village Green Park, the Homecoming Parade will follow a new route in 2019.
The Parade will begin at Van Dyke Road and Lockport Street at 9:00 a.m. The Parade will travel east on Lockport Street and turn northeast onto Main Street. It will follow Main Street to Illinois Street and turn south. At Lockport Street, the parade will turn west and proceed through the downtown. The Parade will then turn south on James Street and finish at Plainfield Central High School on Fort Beggs Drive.
At the conclusion of the parade, band/bus pick-up and float parking will be in the south side Fort Beggs High School parking lot. All walkers from the parade may be picked up either at Greg Bott Park (formerly Renwick Community Park) or on the north side of the high school.
A limited amount of Handicapped Parking will be available at PCHS and Plainfield Village Hall. People may also park in the Illinois Street municipal parking lot next to the Library. This lot will be accessible from Route 59 during the parade. The Des Plaines Street municipal parking lot will only be accessible before and after the parade, not during.
