Wine of the Week: Celebrating Simply Great Italian Wines; Serbian Style
Dwight Casimere | 11/19/2020, noon
Lively guitar music and the singing of ethnic songs, mounds of thinly slice ‘Jamon’ (sliced prosciutto), Feta Cheese Burek, Rada’s Perfect Ushtipci, Cevapchichi and Crispy Calamari were the order of the day in a multi-ethnic celebration of Simply Great Italian Wines in Chicago’s Lincoln Square.
Sparkling wine from Franciacorta, terrific riservas from Montepulciano and Pinot Girgio from delle Venizie were all paired with a dazzling array of Charcuterie at Bourbon Café to celebrate Federdoc USA and Mexico, Italian Excellences of DOC wines in the USA and Mexico.
Federdoc is the Voluntary Consortia National Confederation for the Protection of Italian Wine Designations. Established in 1979, it gathers almost the whole world of Italian wine designations and represents and supports the Consortia’s institutional, legal and legislative aspects.
The lively celebration, held at one of the city’s Serbian-American landmarks, was a fitting tribute both to this esteemed organization and the all-encompassing ethnic culture of Chicago.
Earlier in the day, Simply Italian Great Wines U.S. Tour landed at Chicago’s Langham Chicago hotel on the Chicago River for a series of tasting seminars on the lasted vintages including:
Marches: The Autochthonous Wines par Excellence, Franciacorta Heritage, Delle Venezie DOC: A Journey into the World of the Pinot Grigio
And Vino Nobile di Montepulciano: The Energy of Tuscany. The sessions were organized by I.E.E.M. USA (International Event and Exhibition Management), the Miami-based agency specializing in marketing, organizing and managing events, exhibitions and PR for the wine industry.
