Joliet, IL – On Friday, the Heritage Corridor Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) revealed a new travel guide as part of a kickoff for the new Route 66 campaign: The First Hundred Miles. The travel guide cover features the new, interactive Route 66 sign at the Joliet Area Historical Museum that has already become a popular destination for travelers along the Mother Road. The sign, perfect for photo ops, is a collaboration among the Joliet City Center Partnership, the Museum, and the CVB.
“These travel guides are integral part of reaching the consumer leisure traveler,” said CVB President & CEO Bob Navarro. “Last year’s guide featured the Old Joliet Prison on the cover and now we’re able to feature another great tourist destination in downtown Joliet.”
The First Hundred Miles of Route 66 marketing campaign also includes a new website, www.TheFirstHundredMiles.com. The site features a trip itinerary builder, attractions, dining, lodging, shopping, maps, events, and more. It is updated weekly with new blogs and photos, including the popular features Selfie Stops, Throwback Dining, and Famous Films along Route 66.
The new guide is one of several being produced this year, with differing areas of focus from Route 66 to I & M Canal Towns to the Starved Rock Area. Content in this guide highlights shops, dining, lodging, and more for those traveling the first hundred miles of Route 66, from Chicago to Pontiac.
Megan Millen, Joliet City Center Partnership Chair and Joliet Public Library Executive Director highlighted what downtown Joliet has to offer Route 66 travelers in her remarks at the event. “We have baseball, cheesecake, glass art, vinyl, and so much more. If you haven't visited downtown in a while, make it a priority this summer!"
