In Honor of Black History Month, Bolingbrook Black History Month Awareness Club will organize its 24th Annual Black History Month Celebration Saturday, February 12, 2022, from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at Bolingbrook High School, 65 Raider Way, Bolingbrook, IL 60440.
The “Education is Elevation” theme event will be hosted by Chicago Emmy Award Journalist Art Norman of Chicago NBC 5 News. A college and college Greek fair has been added to the free event. Guests and future college students will have the opportunity to learn more about their options about their education and the historically nine Black fraternities and sororities that make up National Pan-Hellenic Council “Divine-Nine”.
There will be a special appearance by Secretary of State Jesse White who will receive the 2022 Hall of Fame Award followed by a special performance by the Jesse White Tumblers. Continuing with this year’s theme will be special guest speaker Dr. Cheryl Green, Ph.D., President, Governors State University. Black History Advocate and educator Ernest Crim III will enlighten the audience about Black History. The highly anticipated event that has been connecting the community by providing awareness and understanding of African American Heritage will also include college scholarships that are presented to outstanding high school seniors with performances and more for the entire family.
With a mission to spread the awareness and education of black history in the community, Bolingbrook’s Black History Month Awareness Club is set to make a difference. The event is held annually during Black History Month and is geared to all residents regardless of race and origin to assist in building bridges of tolerance and understanding. The event is sponsored by Valley View District 365U, the Village of Bolingbrook, the Bolingbrook Arts Council, the Fountaindale Public Library, and a host of local businesses. The event is free, open to the public with entertainment. Masks are required to enter the event.

The annual event was created to promote diversity and Awareness of Black heritage through an educational and entertaining format. Bolingbrook attorney Anita Kontoh Carty, Felix George former DuPage Township Trustee, and Financial Advisor, Bernard Winston founded the Black History Month Awareness Club. The club works year-round to organize their one signature event that has now grown to draw hundreds throughout Will County.
