Will County has approved an agreement with the City of Joliet that sets in motion the construction of a new county courthouse and the re-opening of Chicago Street.

Increased costs approved for new sheriff’s station, court house

The Will County Board has approved amended budgets for the new County Courthouse building as well as its Laraway Road sheriff’s station. The amended budget for the new public safety complex/sheriff’s station on Laraway Road will increase costs from $29 million to $33 million for construction of an impound lot, deceleration lane and specialty storage building. The amended courthouse budget will add about $20 million to the total cost of the project. The additional work will increase the previously approved budget of $195 to $215 million. Added features will include $500,000 for a rain screen building enclosure, and $17.2 million for the build out of two floors that will add 10 more courtroom spaces.

As they oversee the construction of a new Laraway Road sheriff’s station, Will County officials are already looking ahead to the day when it will be time to decide what to do with its courthouse complex in downtown Joliet.
