Wine of the Week-Dominio Romano Camino 2021-$33, a Red Wine from Spain’s Ribera del Duero

Published on

This is a robust red wine from northern Spain’s most famous wine region, the Ribera del Duero. Drinking this wine is like taking a sip of history.

Made from 100% Tempranillo, the national grape of Spain, which is known as Tinto Fino in del Duero, this is an intense wine with an elegant finish. Well-balanced, with black and red fruits are layered with a touch of oak from long barrel aging. The flavor is bold with a hint of freshness.

The Spanish, just like Americans, love their grill in summer. This wine is perfect with grilled meats or a firm whole fish smothered in fresh herbs and doused with olive oil.

Ancient records tell of how the Romans brought grapes to the Ribera centuries ago, tying an unbreakable knot with the land and the climate of the Valley del Duero. They left behind a labyrinth of vineyards that are nurtured to this day.

The tradition of winemaking in del Duero was carried forward by the Cuisine family with wines they created in the Penedes under the label Pares Balta and in the Priorat as Gratavinum.

In 2005, they initiated a new project in the Ribera del Duero region and named it Dominio Romano in honor of their viticulture ancestors.

Working with the indigenous grape Tinto Fino, as Tempranillo is known in the del Duero, this spirited, small, dusty black and blue berry with a thick skin, is magically transformed into a lush, full-bodied wine that has spiritual roots in the Medoc.

This is a truly enjoyable wine with incredible flavor and exuberant expression. It captures the soul of Spain in every sip. Drink Responsibly.
