The first anniversary of the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law was marked by Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) who highlighted the federal investments that are already creating good-paying jobs and transforming Illinois communities.
“One year ago, under Democratic leadership, this Congress delivered a once-in-a-generation investment to create millions of good-paying jobs repairing, rebuilding, and revitalizing our communities,” said Foster. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law is already delivering results for Illinois communities throughout the collar counties — fixing roads and bridges, enhancing public transit, expanding broadband, cleaning up pollution, and more. Simply put, communities in the 11th District and across Illinois are better off because of the resources provided by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.”
The Infrastructure Law is already delivering federal funds for a range of vital projects in Illinois, including:
- $4.6 billion to repair roads and bridges, and to improve roadway safety throughout the state
- $100 million to expand high-speed internet coverage across Illinois
- $288 million to improve Illinois water infrastructure and ensure safe drinking water
- $850 million to enhance public transportation options throughout Illinois
- $54 million to expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure statewide
- $139 million to modernize Illinois airports
- $226 million to begin construction on the Brandon Road Lock and Dam Project, which will keep invasive Asian carp out of Lake Michigan and Illinois waterways
