Classic Bordeaux from the Haut-Medoc

From the prestigious Haut-Medoc in France comes the Bordeaux blend Chateau La Lagune 2015. A 3rd Growth Classification from the organic vineyards of Ludon, the wine is a carefully crafted blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. The gravel soils of the Medoc give the wine an earthy foundation that emphasizes the complexity and elegance of the resulting wine.

Hand-harvested in small batches, it is picked over three times before the selected berries are fermented in 72 temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats, before aging the wine for 18 months in 55% new French oak barrels. The aromatic and well-structured wine then rests in the bottle before release, revealing a refinement on par with the finest Margaux wines.

La Lagune was one of the prestige wines presented at the recent inaugural presentation of Vinous Icons, a weekend of wine tastings, educational seminars and Gala Dinners held in the historic Altman Building in Manhattan’s famed Garment District. The historic halls where some of the nation’s finest men’s and women’s sartorial were created were a fitting venue for presentation of the finest wines the world’s producers have to offer.

Dominated by dark berry fruit on the nose and palate, with firm tannic backbone from start to finish, the wine is backed by some terrific cedar and cigar box back notes. This is a classic dinner wine, to be paired with your finest Dry Aged Porterhouse Steak and a side of Roasted Potatoes topped with Gorgonzola and Asparagus Tips. Ave a bit for the Molten Chocolate Cake with Raspberry Glaze at dessert for a most satisfying evening.

Chateau La Lagune s an ancient property with a history that dates back to the 16th century and the reign of King Henry IV. The property is marked by an impressive chateau, built by the great architect Baron Victor Louis, who also built the Grand Theatre of Bordeaux. Once owned by the De Seze family, Caroline Frey of the Frey family now runs the property. The family also owns the legendary Jaboulet estate in the Rhone Valley and is a major shareholder of the Champagne house Billecart-Salmon.

Under Caroline Frey’s guidance, La Lagune has moved toward a more nuanced approach to their wines, minimizing the amount of time they spend in New Oak in order to create a fresher flavor profile. For more, visit lagunacellars.com. Better yet, purchase a bottle of La Lagune and enjoy.
