GhanaFest 34th year dedicates a weekend of cultural
First Official GhanaFest merchandise introduced
The Ghana National Council of Metropolitan (GNC) and its Affiliates presents a Sankofa theme weekend of Ghanaian Cultural, July 29th-30th. Traditionally held on the last Saturday of July, this year, the GNC has dedicated the entire weekend to displaying and educating the city of Chicago and surrounding communities about the culture, food, fashion, and music of the people of Ghana. With a large Ghanaian community living in the southwestern suburbs that include Joliet, Bolingbrook and Plainfield communities, the festivities will kick off with a Black-Tie Corporate Excellence Awards and Dinner themed “Introducing Kente in the Boardroom” to be held at Chateau Del Mar on July 29th, 8301 W 95th St. in Hickory Hills, IL from 7:00 PM until 10:00 PM. The event will introduce businesses and organizations that incorporate and educate about the Ghanaian culture. Guest is encouraged to wear formal or traditional attire. The festival will continue with its flagship event GhanaFest, Saturday, July 30, 2022, in Washington Park; 5500 South Russell Drive, Chicago, IL. from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM. A $15 gate donation allows patrons unrestricted access to the all-day festival. Various attractions and activities are available, such as Ghanaian food vendors where guests can taste authentic Ghanaian dishes. Many vendors will also sell goods such as shea butter, African clothing, art, and jewelry from Ghana. There is no shortage of cultural displays as the Chiefs and Queen Mothers of the various tribes will participate in the parade of chiefs, and tribal cultural performances. Live music will be provided around the clock featuring world-traveled musicians that will delight patrons with a wide variety of music and by accompanying many musicians and stage performers. The youth will be delighted by the abundance of activities at the Youth Village tents, which include dancing competitions, Ghana trivia, face painting, a bouncy house, and much more! Ghanaian American Eddie Oppong, who tells stories through capsule collections with Converse sneakers and his own Ye Wo Krom will design the very first set of GhanaFest merchandising. A portion of the proceeds will go back into the Ghanaian community to help bridge the gap between culture and creativity. Official merchandising can be purchased at www.ghanafest.com.
Soccer fans and enthusiasts will enjoy the GhanaFest Official Soccer Match on July 31st located at 6220 S. Stony Island Chicago, IL 60637 at 4:00 PM.
