Will County Clerk Lauren Staley Ferry will conduct a lottery to determine which candidates will appear in the top ballot position in certain races for the June 28 Primary Election.

The County Clerk will conduct the lottery at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22 in the Will County Board Room, 302 N. Chicago Street in downtown Joliet.

The lottery, which is required by statute, involves candidates who were in line to file their nominating petitions when the Will County Clerk’s Office opened for business on the first day of filing. The statute reads:

“When two or more petitions are received simultaneously for the same office and party, as of the opening hour or during the last hour of the filing period, the Election Authority shall break ties and determine the order of filing by means of a lottery.” (10 ILCS 5/7-12(6)).

The Will County Clerk’s Office will hold the lottery only for Countywide, County Board, and Precinct Committeeperson candidates. The Illinois State Board of Elections will conduct a lottery for all statewide and federal offices.
