Chicago formally announced an effort to bring the Democratic National Convention to Chicago in 2024. The convention, which will serve as the Democratic Party’s nominating convention for the Democratic Presidential candidate in 2024, would build on the city’s history of successfully hosting large-scale events that draw visitors from around the country and world, putting Chicago’s world-class restaurants, museums, art, and entertainment on the global stage. A Chicago-based convention would also leverage the city’s location as a central hub in the heart of the country, in close proximity to many states throughout the key Midwest region. This announcement was accompanied by a video narrated by award-winning artist, author, actor, producer and activist Common, a native of Chicago’s Avalon Park, highlighting the qualities that make Chicago an ideal host and a uniquely American city.
“Chicago has a track record of successfully hosting premier, world-class events like the Democratic National Convention with pride, dedication and hospitality,” said Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. “Hosting the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago will create tremendous opportunities for job creation and business growth, and I am excited for the chance to show the world why Chicago is an important global city and the epicenter of the Midwest.”

“From raising the minimum wage to taking climate action to expanding health care coverage, voting rights, and childcare, Illinois has led the way delivering for America’s working families,” said Illinois Governor JB Pritzker. “The convention would infuse more than $150 million into our economy, making it a win not just for Chicago—but our entire state. I’m proud to invite the nation to explore the Land of Lincoln and Obama and enjoy everything from our world-class museums and theaters to our spectacular lakefront, world renowned sports teams and award-winning restaurants.”

The bid to bring the 2024 DNC to Chicago includes a diverse coalition of business, civic and labor leaders as well as everyday residents across the city.
“Chicago and Illinois lead the nation in policies that build a stronger, fairer economy and protect our democratic ideals,” said U.S. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL). “The Democratic National Convention will bring economic benefits to our diverse city. We look forward to welcoming the world here in 2024.”

“On behalf of the Democratic Party of Illinois, I am thrilled to support Chicago’s bid for the 2024 Democratic National Convention,” said Democratic Party of Illinois Chair Rep. Robin Kelly (IL-02). “Our city and state are well equipped to host a successful convention, from our infrastructure built to welcome tens of thousands of people with ease to the natural and cultural attractions to make their time here memorable. Illinois Democrats are united in our mission to support and invest in all communities, and we look forward to demonstrating to the nation how our future is created right here in Chicago.”
