The Times Weekly and partners, Joliet Park District and Crossroads Christian Church will kick off their 9th annual free Back to School Family Festival on Saturday July 30, at Nowell Park in Joliet from 11am – 2pm. Each year the community looks forward to the family BLAST which marks the end of summer and the beginning of the new school year.







The festival begins promptly at 11am and will be giving away free Backpacks filled with school supplies there will also be resources for parents, games for everyone, food and refreshments will be provided. According to organizers.
“We look forward to the annual event and it has grown every year,” said Taryn Brewer, Times Weekly, festival team. “We are excited to present this festival for the ninth consecutive year.”

There were nearly 2,500 people at last year’s festival, Brewer said and is encouraging everyone to not be late.
“We encourage people to arrive early as the backpacks and food are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis and thousands of people are expected,” she said.
Besides the food and backpacks, families can also expect to be entertained with music, face painting, a reptile show, police squads and fire trucks on premises and a visit by the Joliet Slammers mascot. “We are finally able to again have a bigger event after the past 2 years. The height of COVID pandemic was a challenge the past couple of years but this year, families will be able to again receive resources as they get ready for the new school year,” said Brewer. “This is one of the largest events in the area.”
Organizers said the purpose of the Family School Festival is to provide an end of the summer event to help families get the best start to the new school year and give “community children a positive outlook going into school.”
