Fun & Food Trucks: 5-8 p.m. Friday, July 22, Whalon Lake, Naperville. Enjoy activities – including a bounce house and giveaways – at the preserve while eating from local food truck vendors. The lineup includes Grumpy Gaucho, Life’s a Slice, Rogue Farm to Curbside Kitchen and The Flight Deck. This is the second of three food truck programs scheduled for the summer. The final program will take place Aug. 26 at Hammel Woods – Route 59 access in Shorewood.
Scales and Tails Meet and Greet: 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 22, Whalon Lake, Naperville. Stop by the Fun & Food Trucks event and meet the Hidden Oaks Nature Center’s educational animals. Discover how turtles can come in all different shapes and sizes and meet a snake who will show off her slithering moves. All ages.
Evening Paddle – Bring Your Own Boat: 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 22, Rock Run Rookery Preserve, Joliet. Bring your own kayak and personal floatation device for an evening tour exploring the animals of Rock Run Rookery Preserve. Wear shoes and clothes that can get wet and bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a water battle. Previous kayaking experience is required. All participants must wear a PFD. Museum Campus Exploration Day: 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 23, Isle a la Cache Museum, Romeoville. Visit the museum on the fourth Saturday of the month through August. Find out what’s going on in the 18th-century Traders Cabin and peek inside the Native American longhouse. This is your chance to explore all the buildings and learn about the French fur traders and Potawatomi who once called this area home. Free, all ages.
Summer Bird Expedition: 9-11 a.m. Sunday, July 24, Hammel Woods – Route 59 Access, Shorewood. Enjoy woodland birds in the shade of the forest and discover birds that won’t be found in your backyard. Free, all ages. Register by July 23; sign up online or call 815-722-9470.
