A new partnership between the C.W. Avery YMCA of Plainfield and Edward-Elmhurst Health is now in a position to help improve the health, mind and body of residents in and around the community.
On Thursday, Oct. 27 from 4 to 5 p.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the beginning of the new partnership. The event will be held at the Plainfield YMCA, which is part of the Greater Area Joliet YMCA that serves all residents in Will and Grundy counties.
Executive Director Lisa Behounek said Edward-Elmhurst Health and the Plainfield YMCA are committed and invested in the health and wellness of residents living in communities it serves.
“Since we had the space, we searched for a new in-house partner,” she said. “It is a great way to keep our community healthy and it is very rewarding for us.”
Behounek said both entities formed a new health and wellness initiative this year to bring enhanced programming to Plainfield and surrounding communities by offering opportunities for education, prevention, and screenings for early detection of health issues. The 2,000-square-foot clinic, which is open to the general public, will also offer programs on nutrition, weight management and senior wellness, and expanded healthcare offerings to include an on-site physical therapy clinic run by Edward-Elmhurst Health that will treat everything from joint pain and strengthening to blood-flow restriction for post-operative care. The physical therapy clinic will also offer free orthopedic and sports screenings by appointment.
The new clinic is located on the north side of the YMCA, 15120 Wallin Drive, and can be accessed through the Wellness Center to the left of the weightlifting area.
