Music education is a pillar of Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra’s (IPO’s) mission of bringing great classical music to Chicago’s Southland. IPO’s musical season has seen:
- 1,300 students touched by IPO educational programming.
- Ten schools participating in Artists in Schools, Meet the Maestro, Meet the Musician, Side by Side Concerts and Musician Coaching’s.
- Approximately, 2,000 students and teachers registered to attend IPO Youth Concerts. • Prioritization of economically disadvantaged households as defined by Illinois State Board of Education Report Card—25% of all students served by IPO is low-income families.
- Development of new educational programming titled “Storytime and Music,” growing community outreach with local public libraries.
The successful launch of the Marilynn Tannebaum Youth Music Education Institute, the umbrella for all IPO’s youth educational endeavors
Grant support covers less than half of what is needed to bring educational programs to life.
