Cook County Board of Review Chairman George Cardenas gaveled the Board’s 2022 tax session closed Monday. The Board transmitted its final townships August 24th – 45 days earlier than in 2022. Because of the Board’s earlier finish, the Illinois Department of Revenue was able to release its Cook County Equalizer on September 5th. Because of that, Cook County taxpayers will receive their 2nd installment tax bills earlier and taxing bodies will receive funds sooner.

The Board is opening Group 1 two months and 10 days earlier than the Board opened the 2022 tax session (November 21st) and three months before 2021’s opening (December 6th). An earlier opening to the tax session is one of several initiatives the Board is taking to get bills out on time next year, in addition to the implementation of the Tyler IASWorld Bridge and rearrangement of the Township appeal schedule in conjunction with CCAO.

Cardenas said, “I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to the Board’s hardworking staff across all districts and departments for their tireless work and sacrifice in bringing us to this point. Through this collective effort and commitment, the Board was able to adjudicate 239,950 appeals.”

Commissioner Larry Rogers, Jr added that “Because of the hard work and months of overtime by our analysts, we were able reduce the schedule for this year’s Tax Appeal Session by six weeks, allowing tax bills to be sent out one month earlier than last year.”  This follows a reduction in days to certification of 11 days in 2022.

The Board is opening 10 townships for appeal in September, with Barrington, Calumet, Norwood Park, Oak Park and Riverside opening September 11th in Group 1 and Berwyn, Cicero, Hanover, River Forest and Rogers Park Townships opening September 18th in Group 2.
