Fusion Natural Hair and Braid Academy will officially open its doors to the public on October 26, 2023, with a grand opening at 18 Ohio Street, Joliet, IL, from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM. The academy will be the first in the southwest suburb to professionally educate natural hair and braiders to become licensed in Illinois.
With a mission to empower her community, founder, licensed instructor, and Director of Education, LeAnn Drake will start the academy’s inaugural hair braiding class on October 18th. Through her passion for teaching, she has crafted a curriculum promising to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to flourish in natural hair and beauty. “The most important thing is educating my students to be successful,” says LeAnn, “with more people being interested in the benefits of natural hair, I want to use the academy to equip people with knowledge to use their skills and or open their businesses in hair care.”
The academy will be the first of its kind in the southwestern suburb. Her idea of opening Fusion Natural Hair & Braid Academy came from wanting to build something in the community she grew up in, after her cosmetology instructor encouraged her to become an educator. She then released shortly after being an educator that she had the power to influence her community by educating people about natural hair. She wants people to be empowered after completing the program.
