Halloween is Tuesday, October 31 and as families begin to make plans for trick-or-treating, the Village of Plainfield and Plainfield Police Department would like to share the following safety guidelines:

  • Trick-or-Treating hours are 4-8 p.m.
  • If you choose to hand out candy, please turn on your outside lights.
  • If you do not wish to participate, please make sure your outside lights are turned off. The Village has also created a flyer (available online at www.plainfieldil.gov) that you can print and post in your window or door so that others know you are not participating.
  • Make sure that trick-or-treaters have a clear field of vision and wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes.
  • Be careful when crossing streets and check both directions for cars.
  • Do not enter any homes.
  • Check all treats in a well-lit area after returning home and only eat unopened candy that is in the original packaging.
  • Respect others and their property.

If you have any questions, please contact the Plainfield Police Department at (815) 436-6544.
