The Heritage Corridor Destinations announced on Thursday that President Bob Navarro has been appointed by Illinois Governor J. B. Pritzker to the Illinois Route 66 Centennial Commission.

The Commission was established in 2019 to plan and coordinate events and activities to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026. As a commissioner, Navarro will work with tourism officials, local governments, and other stakeholders along the route to promote tourism and economic development opportunities surrounding the milestone anniversary. 

With more than 15 years of experience leading Heritage Corridor Destinations, Navarro has gained national recognition as an expert in tourism. Under his leadership, Heritage Corridor Destinations has worked with partners along Route 66 to develop interpretive plans, market historic sites, and create memorable visitor experiences.

The Heritage Corridor Destinations ignites, influences, and impacts the visitor experience through tourism partnerships within the communities and counties along the historic I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor. Starting just a few miles southwest of Chicago and extending southwest through Starved Rock Country. The Bureau is the officially certified bureau for the following counties: Bureau, Grundy, LaSalle, Princeton, Putnam and Will.
