Perla Del Garda, Garda DOC Bianco, 2023-$12

Lake Garda is one of the most beautiful places in all of Italy. Panoramic vistas, rolling hills and charming medieval villages make it one of the most popular destinations for tourists in Italy outside of Rome.

Lake Garda itself is the largest lake in Italy. Its surroundings are a playground for the adventurous traveler. Cycling, hiking, fishing, water skiing and every water sport you can imagine make it a summer paradise. Located in Italy’s northernmost region, winter brings skiers to slopes to the north in droves.

It is no surprise that among the cypress, olive, cherry and lemon trees on the slopes of its rolling hills are pristine vineyards that produce a variety of distinctive wines. Food friendly and affordable, the wines of Garda DOC are a delightful way to explore this scenic and historic region.

Sparkling wines from the Garda DOC have been able to find a recognizable place in Italy’s expanding sparkling wine market. Garda is also making itself known as a producer of outstanding white and red wines, in addition to superb sparkling wines.

A recent Voyage through the iconic wines of Garda DOC provided a unique opportunity to explore the diverse wines of the region, which was sponsored by Garda DOC Experience-Consorzio Garda DOC, gardadocexperience.com.

Garda DOC Bianco began with a tasting of Perla Del Garda, Garda DOC Bianco 2023 ($12), presented by the winery’s founder and Wine Producer Giovanna Prandini. In addition to tasting her wine at the Iconic Wines event, I had an opportunity to meet with her at the Great Wines of Italy event hosted by James Suckling.

Perls Del Garda DOC Bianco is an elegant wine with a strong identity. Fresh, lively and bursting with citrus flavors and rich minerality.

I enjoyed it on my own with baked trout in a lemon butter sauce laced with fresh oregano from my garden. A salad of arugula with dried cherry tomatoes (also from my garden), a few green olives and burrata cheese drizzled with lemon and extra virgin olive oil made for a sumptuous meal. Finishing with my grandmother’s recipe for Key Lime Pie was the perfect finale. The dessert went perfectly with the last dregs of the wine.

This was only the beginning of my voyage through the iconic wines of Garda DOC. I will be expounding more on these fabulous wines in future articles. For more on these terrific wines, visit gardadocexperience.com
