Residents in Will County will have another option to golf even when the weather turns cold and snowy.
X-Golf by the end of this year will open a new location at 1004 Brook Forest Ave. (Route 59) in Shorewood. Owner Jeff Bass said the location, which is accessible from I-55, made it a prime spot to open his newest franchise.
X-Golf provides sports enthusiasts with state-of-the-art indoor golf simulators that offer players unparalleled accuracy and realism through a combination of camera systems, infrared lasers, impact sensors and advanced gaming software, according to the company’s Web site.
Currently, X-Golf has locations in Illinois including at Downers Grove, Geneva, Algonquin, Wrigleyville, Orland Park and Schaumburg. Guests can book golf simulators and play virtually on any famous golf course in the world. They can also take lessons to improve their games. Food and a full bar will also be available at the Shorewood location.
Earlier this year, Nationals Park became the second Major League Baseball ballpark to offer golf simulators as X-Golf American announced a new location at the home of the Washington Nationals, joining Milwaukee Brewers and American Family Field in the corporately owned line up.
Stan Kowalski of Shorewood said he has been to the X-Golf location in Orland Park and cannot wait to visit the business in his hometown when it opens.
“Their technology is truly accurate,” he said. “Plus, their venues are so much fun, because you can come with friends and play a round of golf on the simulators and eat and drink as well.”
Likewise, Alex Hoffer said he too is looking forward to visiting the indoor golf course.
“Been to the one down south a couple of times,” he said. “Very much looking forward to it.”
According to the National Golf Foundation, an estimated 6.2 million Americans hit golf balls with a club in a golf simulator within the past year, a total that has surged 73 percent compared to pre-pandemic levels. In 2019 and years prior, the foundation estimates simulator participation had hovered just under four million.
