Nine people have filed nominating petitions to run for the three at-large seats open on the City Council in the April election.
Monday was the last day for candidates to file petitions to have their names appear on the April 1 ballot. Positions of mayor and the five district seats on the City Council won’t be up for re-election until 2027.
Incumbents Joe Clement, Cesar Guerrero and Jan Quillman all submitted petitions. Both men are in the process of finishing their first term in office while Quillman has been on the city council since 2005.
Besides the incumbents, filing for the council at-large seats were Damon Zdunich, local businessman; Larry Crawford, works for Joliet Grade School District 86; Juan Moreno, Teamsters member; Jim Lanham; Marzell L. Richardson, restaurant owner; and Glenda Wright McCullum, who serves as commissioner on the Housing Authority of Joliet.
Zdunich, Crawford, Lanham and Wright-McCullum have all previously run unsuccessfully for a city council seat.
A lottery will be held Tuesday, Nov. 26, to determine ballot position as Clement, Crawford and Zdunich were all first to file. Guerrero, Quillman and Wright-McCullum all filed toward the end of Monday.
