The 12th Annual Illumination exhibition is underway at Morton Arboretum in Lisle. Illumination is a dazzling exhibition featuring 17 displays, including a completely new light display, the Celebration Circle. Guests emerge from the Enchanted Gateway into this new experience in Centennial Plaza in the Grand Garden. Dynamic colors and patterns appear on a large abstract tree shape in the middle of the plaza, surrounded by four interactive sets of abstract trees. Each tree is synched to a different musical instrument to create an immersive experience of sight and sound.

With more than a thousand trees along the display route, Illumination covers 50 0f the Arboretum’s 1,700 acres. Illumination has been seen by more than 2 million guests over the past 11 years. Returning guests will find some old favorites: Enchanted Gateway is reimagined with thousands of points of light twinkling along the entry tunnel in Arbor Court. Symphony Woods returns this year with its magical pairing of music and light. Shadow Play gets the whole family involved in creating their own light and shadow experience on a large wall with projected color.

Woodland Wonder is a secluded grove transformed by dozens of ornament-like rotating mirror balls hung from a sculptural tree. The space is transformed into a sea of moving points of light, creating a shimmering Tinkerbell-like effect. Meadow Lake gets in on the action with a sparkling display of mirrored lights and a lively soundtrack pulsating with the joy of the holiday season. Lasers provide an additional layer of excitement to these Radiant Reflections. Illumination continues through Jan. 4.  Check mortonarg.org/illumination for dates and hours of operation.
