State Rep. Natalie Manley, (D-Joliet), met with area police chiefs at state Sen. Meg Loughran Cappel’s, (D-Shorewood) district office in a continuing effort to strengthen communication between law enforcement and state legislators.
Chief Mike Rompa (Bolingbrook), Chief Robert Miller (Plainfield), Chief Bill Evans (Joliet), and Chief Phil Arnold (Shorewood) shared ideas, updates, and concerns with state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, (D-Romeoville), state Rep. Harry Benton, (D-Plainfield), Sen. Cappel and Rep. Manley.
The topics discussed were wide-ranging and included issues relating to police-community relations, local issues, and the General Assembly’s legislative agenda.
A discussion centered on proposed residential and industrial developments in various municipalities, including potential impacts on traffic and an ongoing land dispute in Plainfield.
Police chiefs shared updates on budgeting, contract negotiations with police unions, and the need for infrastructure upgrades, such as replacing outdated tornado sirens.
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the progress of legislation related to restorative justice initiatives and sex work, as well as ongoing debates surrounding the SAFE-T Act.
