Bourgogne, or Burgundy in English, is one of the most famous and well-known wine regions of France. However, it is often perceived as one-dimensional. In an effort to dispel that image, the Bourgogne Wine Board of France sponsored an exclusive Bourgogne Wine Tasting event, Take A Closer Look, at Venue Six10, on South Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. Presenting 26 passionate winemakers from the region, the event allowed participants to step off the beaten path to discover wines from the area’s lesser-known appellations. They explored wines from the Macon, Beaune and immersed themselves in the wines of Chablis through an interactive experience inspired by the educational game, Unlock Chablis. Among the wines presented were those of Maison Joseph Drouhin, presented by the scion of the estate, Laurent Drouhin, Domaine Franck Lamargue, presented by Delia Lamargue, Auxey-Duresses, with winemaking team member Louis Paquet, and Nicolas Switalski of Clothilde Davenne of Chablis. The wines were all exquisite character and truly representative of one of the fantastic wine growing regions of the world.
