Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG is an exceptional experience in fine Italian wine from the heart of Tuscany. Once the crown jewel of the Tuscan Renaissance, winemaking has been a tradition for centuries. With its unique combination of terroir, microclimate, and soil, the wines have a distinctive character that sets them apart. The seamless fusion tradition and progress is reflected in the wines, which possess exceptional quality. These are fine dining wines at their best.
Consorzsio President Andrea Rossi and Antonio Galloni-Wine Critic and Founder of Vinous presented a lively Master Class and Guided Tasting of about a dozen of the outstanding wines that were presented. It was followed by a walk-around tasting and a flavorful spread of authentic Italian cuisine. The event was organized by I.E.E.M., the Miami based an agency specializing in marketing, organizing and managing events, exhibitions and PR for the wine industry.

Among the exceptional wines at the tasting was Pieve Sant Albino Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2021-Vigneto Poggio Sant Enrico Grande. This 100% Sangiovese wine was fermented by indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures before aging over 20 months in wooden barrels of various sizes. The resulting wine is very intense, with concentrated flavors of wild berries and hints of clove. Subtle shades of vanilla and walnut add to the complex notes on the palate. A great accompaniment to grilled meats, it makes for a terrific summertime companion. Only $65 a bottle, a bargain by Montepulciano standards.

Fattoria Svetoni is another 100% Sangiovese which spent the first 15-25 days of its life fermenting in stainless steel tanks under strict temperature control to preserve its delicate fruit flavors. Aging for at least 24 months in Slavonian oak barrels the wine is then aged in French oak barrels before aging in the bottle for at least one year. This is a terrific wine to serve with pheasant, venison or any other game meat. It’s also great with Prime Aged Steak and mature cheeses. At $90 the bottle, this is one to save for special company or celebration of a personal triumph. Poliziano Pieve Caggiole DOCG 2021 is another wine fermented in stainless steel before maturing for 16-18 months in used French Oak and giant Tonneaux barrels. Ruby red with a pronounced nose of dried rose petals and flavors of wild strawberries and slices of orange peel, this is a rich wine with smooth tannins. Expressive and with a long finish, this is a great wine to have with a hearty roast or, if you’re so inclined, a fine cigar. At $110 a bottle, this is one to savor over a long, languid summer’s eve.
