The extreme heat and oppressive humidity didn’t deter the more than 20,000 who attended the three-day LIV Pro Golf event over the weekend. Local golfers had the opportunity to see their favorite players up close at the national event.

The 2025 LIV Individual Championship was held from Aug. 8th to the10th in Bolingbrook. Dean Burmester took first place and won the $4 million prize.

LIV Golf, a Saudi Arabia-backed league, chose Bolingbrook Golf Club, operated by Kemper Sports. The club features a 7,104-yard layout designed by Arthur Hills and Steve Forrest. Bolingbrook also hosted the same event last year.

The Bolingbrook Golf Club which opened in 2002, ranks second on the NBC Golf pass list of Top 50 public golf courses in the United States. It’s proximity to Chicago is why the Bolingbrook golf course was chosen to host the event.

LIV Chicago is the first “large-scale, high stakes” golf event to ever be held at the Bolingbrook course. Previously, Bolingbrook Golf Club hosted the Tom Dreesen Celebrity Golf Tournament and Bo Jackson Give Me A Chance fundraiser.

LIV Golf was formed in 2021 amidst controversy as many of the most popular players in the PGA Tour, such as Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau and Dustin Johnson, signed huge contracts to play in the Saudi-backed league.

Bolingbrook resident Brandon MacKinsey was among the throng of fans who attended the golf tournament.

“Guys like Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm and Dustin Johnson were major winners in the PGA,” he said. “It was great to see them in action at a golf course right in my backyard.”

“I truly thought there would not be too many people out because of the extreme heat, but people were there early and stayed late. It truly was a good time had by all.”

Local resident Bev Sargento said it took a bit of getting used to with the traffic over the weekend.

“It was impossible to get on 119th Street and Weber Road,” she said. “Traffic was backed up for miles. The Village of Bolingbrook did a great job with traffic control, but there was just so many people.”

But Sargento said she is glad Bolingbrook was in the spotlight.

“People watched this golf tournament all over the world and so many people now know where Bolingbrook is.”
