October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Love & Protect Wisdom (LPW) is having its annual citywide campaign, “Towers Over Domestic Violence,” taking place from October 20 to October 26. This powerful initiative aims to raise awareness, strengthen community engagement, and provide essential resources for survivors through impactful events and meaningful symbolism across the city.
Throughout the week, residents and businesses are encouraged to demonstrate solidarity by lighting their homes, storefronts, and offices in purple—the official color of domestic violence awareness. Iconic landmarks, including Willis Tower, John Hancock Center, Blue Cross Blue Shield Tower, and the Prudential Building, have committed to illuminating their structures in purple, transforming the Chicago skyline into a beacon of hope and unity.
A key highlight will be the inaugural “Tower Over Domestic Violence” Fundraiser at VU Rooftop Bar on Monday, October 20, from 6 to 10 p.m. The evening will feature inspiring keynote remarks from Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, accompanied by live music, delicious food, and drinks in a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. Funds raised will support LPW’s vital programs—ranging from counseling and legal advocacy to educational workshops and support groups—dedicated to empowering survivors and breaking the cycle of violence.
The campaign also features exciting initiatives, including a collaborative fashion show with survivors hosted by KHOI, a week of free classes at Orangetheory Fitness, and citywide lighting events. Residents and businesses are encouraged to participate actively by purchasing tickets, attending events, sharing awareness on social media with #TowerOverDomesticViolence, and illuminating their spaces in purple.
This impactful campaign is made possible through generous sponsorship from VU Rooftop Bar, Laduzinsky & Associates, P.C., the Chicago Blackhawks, KHOI, Orangetheory, and more.
