The Lyric Opera of Chicago presents an all-star cast in two powerful dramatic productions: Mascagni’s *Cavalleria rusticana* and Leoncavallo’s *Pagliacci*. This double bill of beloved twin masterpieces is onstage through November 23 and is a paradise for opera lovers.
Under the uncompromising leadership of Lyric Opera Music Director Enrique Mazzola in the pit, the operas feature powerhouse performances by SeokJong Baek, Quinn Kelsey, Yulia Matochkina, and Russell Thomas in the title roles. Their raw emotion and vocal fire make these performances truly unforgettable.
Quinn Kelsey, a celebrated alumnus of The Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center, returns to Lyric this fall to take on two commanding roles: Alfio in *Cavalleria rusticana* and Tonio in *Pagliacci*.
Additionally, tenor Russell Thomas reveals the heartbreak of *Pagliacci*’s lead character, Canio, in the anguished cry of “Vesti la giubba.” Thomas channels raw emotion in this iconic aria, one of opera’s most recognizable moments.
