As Thanksgiving approached, the Romeoville Community Pantry stepped up to support local families in need. The organization gave out turkeys and sides so everyone in the community could enjoy a holiday meal.  This initiative provided crucial assistance to families facing financial hardship, allowing them to enjoy Thanksgiving traditions despite challenging circumstances.

The event was held at the pantry located at 2 Belmont Dr. in Romeoville on Sunday November 23rd. Serving a lengthy line of cars totaling over 100 families, the volunteer staff took advantage on the unseasonably warm weather and worked hard to ensure each and every car full of seniors and adults with kids had enough to create a feast thanks to the donations by the community at large.

The Romeoville Community Pantry NFP Inc. has a 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization and relies on local business partners, grants and community generosity to help feed those who are struggling to make ends meet. I spoke with pantry board member Teresa Linaweaver who commended all of their supporters and noted that some even donate direct funds which allows the pantry to stretch food budgets when sourcing needs at the food bank. “For every dollar donated, we are able to secure eight dollars’ worth of food from our sources,” said Mrs. Linaweaver.

Romeoville Community Pantry Board president Jackie Esquivel said, “We serve not only Romeoville but ever community that touches our borders. Lockport, Crest Hill, Lemont, Bolingbrook and Plainfield. Currently we feed approximately two hundred families in our area which can grow during the holiday season or during economic declines.” When asked about the long hours she and many others donate to run the pantry, Esquvel said “Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday meals delivered are very special to all of us as we get to come and serve our community and enjoy the smiles and heartfelt thanks our patrons bless us with. It truly makes the holidays brighter for all of us”

The pantry is open for residents of these communities every Saturday from 9am to 11am. Donations can be made year-round to the Romeoville Community Pantry NFP Inc. by calling 815-570-9772.
