Located in central Italy, the territory of Abruzzo is ideally situated for wine production. Located between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso and Majella mountains, it contains three National Parks, and more than a dozen nature reserves. The coastal area with sandy beaches and wide stretch of hills rivals anything on the Riviera.

It’s mild climate on the Apennine facing the Adriatic Sea creates an ideal microclimate for producing grapes of exceptional quality.

Wine lovers recognize the familiar names of many of the region’s great wine varieties; Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, Trebbiano, Pecorino, Coline Teramane, and its most popular, Pinot Grigio.

Without question, Pinot Grigio has become the most popular wine of Italy and perhaps the world. It’s light body and refreshing flavor makes it a perfect match to the lighter, more aromatic and spicy cuisines that are finding favor with the younger generation.

The Consorzii Tutela Vini d’Abruzzo (Consortium for the Protection of Wines of Abruzzo) is a non-profit which aims to protect, enhance and take care of the region’s interests and territory. It currently represents about 200 wineries. The entire wine production process is controlled and documented by the Consortium. The State Mark that appears on each bottle makes it possible to discover the characteristics and origin of every bottle of Abruzzo Wines.

The cuisine of Master Chef Nobu Matsuhisa is legendary. Begun in Hollywood, Nobu Hospitality, LLC is an American company founded by Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, and Meir Teper in partnerships with Drew Nieporent as an operator with Myriad Restaurant Group.  It has a far-flung empire of restaurants around the world. It’s location on ‘Restaurant Row’ on the West Loop corridor on Randolph Street is one of the city’s premiere dining destinations.

Nobu presented a dizzying array of curated specialties to accompany the nearly 40 wines that were poured at the post-seminar walk-around tasting.

Among the favorites were the spicy Tuna Mini-Tacos with Abruzzo Pecorino wine from Caprera. With its naturally salty flavor it’s the perfect accompaniment for seafood. It has some nice mineral notes driven by sea breezes and ample flavors and aromas of fresh cut green apples and a hint of ginger.

Hanger steak tacos were another hit that made the Pepe Rosa wines of Stefania Pepe really stand out.

Spicy chicken skewers gave the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Crazy Horse reason to gallop around the room!  For more, visit Charming tasteifeurope.eu. Drink Responsibly.
