DMV Pop-Up Offers REAL IDs, Mobile ID Assistance, Driver & Vehicle Services and Family Activities
Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias is expanding Chicago Auto Show offerings in 2026, providing REAL ID applications, Mobile ID in Apple Wallet setup assistance, on-site DMV services and activities for families.
“The auto show is an annual Chicago tradition for so many families, and we’re excited to bring critical services directly to them,” Giannoulias said. “This is a convenient opportunity to get your REAL ID before your next flight to avoid the new $45 TSA penalty. Instead of making a separate DMV trip, you can take care of this and other services right at the show.”
The Secretary of State’s booth at McCormick Place will feature a full-service DMV, a family activity area and an up-close look at the office’s DMV on Wheels – AKA the ‘DMV Food Truck.’ Ticketed visitors will be able to obtain REAL IDs, renew licenses and vehicle registrations, set up Mobile IDs in Apple Wallet and access additional services without the need for an appointment.
Tickets for the Chicago Auto Show are required to visit the Secretary of State’s booth during the show. Ticketed attendees can obtain the following services during their visit to the Secretary of State’s booth:
Get a REAL ID:
With the new $45 penalty now in effect for airline passengers who arrive at TSA checkpoints without a REAL ID or valid U.S. passport, the office is encouraging Illinoisans to apply for a REAL ID while attending the show. Customers interested in applying for a REAL ID must bring the proper documents with them to the show. Visit realid.ilsos.gov to learn more about the document requirements.
The office will continue offering REAL IDs at all DMVs statewide and at the Chicago REAL ID Supercenter indefinitely. To make an appointment or find a facility, visit apps.ilsos.gov/facilityfinder/facility
Add Your Mobile ID to Apple Wallet:
Staff will help residents securely add their Illinois driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet for convenient digital presentation at select businesses and TSA checkpoints.
Contribute to the Driving Change Campaign:
Visitors can join the Secretary of State’s Driving Change campaign by sharing experiences with auto insurance rates unfairly determined by socio-economic data, including credit scores, zip codes and age. Residents’ stories will help inform advocacy efforts focused on fair, transparent insurance practices that prioritize safe driving records over non-driving factors.
Renew a Driver’s License or Apply for a State ID: Illinoisans looking to renew their driver’s license or apply for a new state ID card can skip a trip to the DMV.
Renew License Plates: Purchase a new license plate sticker, update your vehicle registration or upgrade your current plate to a vanity or personalized license plate.
Conduct Business: The office’s Business Services team will assist those interested in starting a business, filing annual paperwork or looking up an existing business.
Become an Organ Donor: Learn about the importance of becoming a donor and join the Illinois Organ/Tissue Donor Registry.
