Longtime community advocate recognized for decades of service 

Joliet Township Government Township Trustee Betty Washington was inducted into the Quad Counties Black Hall of Fame on February 28, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Influence Event Suite in Montgomery, Illinois. 

The Quad Counties Black Hall of Fame is an initiative of The Influence Event Suite, founded by Shearon Parham, and was created to honor individuals whose leadership, service, and achievements have made a lasting impact across the Quad Counties and beyond. The Hall of Fame celebrates excellence, preserves community legacy, and inspires future generations through recognition and storytelling. 

Trustee Washington is one of ten distinguished leaders selected for the Hall of Fame’s Inaugural Class of 2026, marking a historic and significant recognition. 

Her decades of service reflect a steadfast commitment to community advancement and civic engagement. Trustee Washington is co-founder of the Joliet Community Action Network (JCAN) Male Mentoring Program, in partnership with members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity She also serves as co-founder and secretary of the Fairmont Forward Community Development Corporation. 

Her leadership extends across numerous respected organizations. Trustee Washington is a past president and lifetime member of the NAACP Joliet Branch, Secretary/Treasurer of the Silver Cross Hospital Healthy Community Commission Board of Directors, Precinct Committeeperson for Joliet City Precinct 8, and a former member of the Joliet Junior College Board of Trustees. 

As Joliet Township Government observes Women’s History Month, we are especially proud to recognize Trustee Washington’s enduring contributions and the example she continues to set for future generations of leaders.
