Tuesday night decided unofficial winners and losers for the GOP and Democratic primaries in anticipation of the upcoming midterm elections in November.

Only 19.09 percent of the registered voters cast ballots in Will County. Approximately 87,597 people voted out of 458,788 registered voters in the county.

One of the hottest contested races in the Democratic primary resulted in Lieutenant Gov. Juliana Stratton unofficially defeating incumbent Raja Krishnamoorthi by a vote of 22,470 to 18,127. Robin Kelly garnered 9,414 votes. Stratton faces Republican Don Tracy, who unofficially defeated five other challengers, with a total vote of 10,569.

While the Democratic governor race was uncontested, incumbent J.B. Pritzker will face Republican Darren Bailey in November, who faced several challengers.

Incumbent Alexi Giannoulias, who did not have a challenger in the Democratic primary for Secretary of State, will face Diane Harris, 53.0% who unofficially defeated Walter Adamczyk, 47.0%

Democrat incumbent Bill Foster will also face Republican Jeff Walter for representative of the Congress 11th Congressional District. The district does cover Will County and all or parts of Bolingbrook, Joliet and Shorewood.

For Will County Sheriff, the unofficial winner is Republican James Reilly, who defeated Justin Fialko. Democrat Patrick Jones garnered 30,182 votes over his challenger Dan Jungles, 20,973 votes.

While incumbent Tim Brothy did not have a Democratic challenger for Will County Treasurer, Carmen Maurella unofficially defeated fellow Republican Raj Pillai by a vote of 18,989 to 10,491.

There were only several contested races for seats on the Will County Board. In District 2, the top two vote getters move forward to November. They are Republicans Judy Ogalla, 2,936 votes, and Frankie Pretzel, 3,380 votes. The third challenger was Neil Gallagher, who received 1,313 votes.

For County Board District 4, top two vote getters are Republicans Stephen Balich, 2,441 votes, and James Richmond, 2,494 votes. To represent District 11, top two vote getters were Democrats Sheldon Watts, 3,025 votes; and Jacqueline Traynere, 2,225 votes.

Voters in Crest Hill defeated a referendum to abolish civil service by a no vote of 1,338 and yes vote of 910.

The last day to count vote by mail and provisional ballot counting is March 31. Votes do not become official after that date.
