Dwight Casimere (L) is with Giovanni Manettia (R) President of Consorzio Chianti Classico

Chianti DOCG is the gem of Tuscany. Nestled within this world-renowned region, Chianti Classico has come into its own. It is a prestigious Italian red wine primarily made primarily from Sangiovese, the flagship grape of Italy.

Known for its vibrant acidity, and flavors of cherry, strawberry, earthy notes, hints of spices and herbs, It is a wine that cries out for food.  Traditional Tuscan dishes like Pasta Bolognese, roasted or grilled meats, and strong aged cheeses, are the perfect partners.

Serve it room temperature or slightly chilled, the choice is yours. It tastes good either way.

Ai Fiori, the formerly Michelin-starred Italian restaurant was the venue for the re-energized U.S. marketing blitz for this storied appellation.

Giovanni Manetti President of the Consorzio Chianti Classico presided over the event with an air of pride in accomplishment.

“It has been surprising that in spite of tariffs and escalating production and transportation costs, our market share has grown by more than 3 per cent. Our customers are demanding more of our wines than ever before.”

The story of Chianti Classico is a constantly evolving saga. While Sangiovese grapes are still the cornerstone of wine peoductiinore clones of indigenous grape varieties are making their way into the mix. Ancient winemaking techniques are being resurrected and are being used along with modern technologies to create wines of singularity.

The DOCG (Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita) classification signifies Italy’s highest wine standard. Chianti Classico DOCG offers a distinct style, with its characteristic flavor profile of cherry, strawberry, and earthy, smoky herbs and spices.

Often full-bodied with aromas of violets, vanilla, licorice, and spice, the wine is enhanced by oak aging and further time in the bottle

Several producers are tempering their aging techniques to emphasize the feuit-forward characteristics of their wines by using large oak casks or concrete tanks that impart little, if any, extraneous influences.

This is definitely the New Age of Chianti Classico!
