Dear Editor

Over the last few years, there were a series of home invasions in nearby communities—the kind that put our whole neighborhood on edge. As the mother of an adult son with special needs, crimes like these add yet another layer of worry into our everyday lives.

Outside of my day job, I help run a local group that connects families to caregivers for adults and children with disabilities. Safety is something we talk about constantly because our loved ones don’t always recognize danger or know how to respond if something goes wrong.

What stood out during those burglaries was how law enforcement was able to identify and stop the person responsible when the crime was committed in a community with license plate cameras. The technology helped connect the dots by identifying the vehicle involved and giving officers a lead. The cameras helped our police restore a sense of safety and security that had been damaged.

For families caring for adults with special needs, time and clarity is everything. Whether it’s a crime, a missing person, or an emergency, the faster responders have reliable information, the better the outcome tends to be.

Supporting tools like this isn’t a question of politics. It’s about protecting a community where some people are more vulnerable than others. I want to live in a place where families feel supported and where law enforcement has the tools it needs to keep neighborhoods safe.

From what I’ve seen, this technology is doing exactly that.
