The Zonta Club of the Joliet Area (ZCJA) launched a new Zonta On The Move podcast in October, now streaming around the world and can be heard on the following platforms: Apple, Google, Stitches, Spotify, Amazon, our website, jolietzonta.org and our facebook page, Zonta Club of Joliet.
The ZCJA PR Chair and Executive Producer, Bonnie Winfrey kicked off the new platform with interviews of several guest speakers and welcomed fellow co-hosts, Zontians and PR Committee members Pat Perrier and Lisa Pappas, as well as introduced ZCJA President Beth Colvin and ZCJA District 6 Area Director Mary Baudino. The Zonta Club has more than 27,000 members in 62 countries world- wide.
A special guest in the initial podcast was Bram Kleppner, the great-nephew of Amelia Earhart who is the most famous Zontian of all. “Amelia Earhart joined Zonta in the 1930s and had a profound impact as a woman in the aviation field,” said Winfrey. Because of that legacy, Zonta International established the Amelia Earhart Fellowship program in which a US $10,000 Fellowship is awarded annually to as many as 30 women pursuing a Ph.D./doctoral degree in aerospace engineering and space sciences. Since the program’s inception in 1938, Zonta has awarded 1,704 Amelia Earhart Fellowships, totaling more than US $11.3 million, to 1,275 women from 76 countries.
During the show Kleppner entertained the audience with the history of his family and its long line of fierce women, including his 91-year-old mother and her mother, Amelia’s sister, Muriel who was one of the first women to have successfully climbed Pike’s Peak, in the Rocky Mountains west of Colorado Springs.
According to Winfrey, The Zonta On The Move podcast will address issues plaguing women, men and children with subjects such as finance, relationships, business, health, and other topics will be discussed.
Zonta believes in making the world a better place by empowering women. “We find joy in doing this in a supportive community of like-minded professionals from diverse countries and cultures. The mission of the Zonta Club of the Joliet Area is to advance the status of women locally and globally, Winfrey said. The club, made up of professional women in the Joliet area ZONTA is service based and raises funds through annual fundraisers. The money Zonta raises goes toward scholarships, international projects, and local charities. Zonta Club of Joliet Area donated over $25K in 2021-2022 season.
