The 13th International Grenache Day brought together wine lovers around the world to celebrate wines made from Europe’s most widely produced grape.
Grenache is one of the most widely planted red wine grape varieties in the world. Found primarily in the south of France, where it is called Grenache, and in Spain, where it is known as Garnacha, it is also found in southern Italy in the island of Sardinia, in Australia and in several important wine growing regions such as Monterey, Paso Robles and Santa Barbara and San Joaquin Valley in California.
The recent annual celebration of International Grenache Day on the 3rd Friday of September brought together more than a hundred producers from France and Spain who share their wines with an eager audience of wine lovers.
Grenache wines are the “next big thing” to be embraced worldwide. The versatile varietal can be made into a kaleidoscope of wines ranging from complex red berry wines, perfect for a gourmet dinner, to luscious fruity whites and crisp roses, that are welcome guests at a garden party to sweet and fortified wines that linger well by the fire. Almost any food pairing is possible with the wines of Garnacha/Grenache. For more, visit garnachagrenache.com.
