Shred Day for residents

Published on

Romeville –  In an effort to help protect residents from identity theft and help remove clutter from their homes, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, partnered with the City of Romeoville, state Rep. Dagmara “Dee” Avelar, and ABRI Credit Union to host a free Shred Day event May 18. Attendees of the event were able to dispose of documents containing sensitive information, such as bank statements and medical records, to keep them safe from potential fraud.

“While there are many avenues that scammers use to obtain personal information, gaining access to old documents is one of the most common ways that sensitive information can fall into the wrong hands,” said Manley. “Identity theft can lead to serious consequences for victims, such as their credit scores being negatively impacted and being sued for debt. Taking simple steps, such as taking advantage of any Shred Day event and safely disposing of documents, can go a long way in keeping residents safe from the many issues that can arise from identity theft. I would like to thank Rep. Avelar, the City of Romeoville, and ABRI Credit Union for helping provide this crucial resource for residents, and I look forward to continuing to work to bring more helpful services into the district this summer and beyond.”
