Sydney Thompson

The City of Joliet has hired Sydney Thompson as the new Media Engagement and Communications Director. Thompson, a resident of Joliet was most recently the Marketing and Communications Manager for the Village of Channahon where she directed the Villages comprehensive Communications strategy and served as its primary media contact. She led proactive and reactive media engagement, developed crisis communication frameworks, and oversaw all digital and traditional communication channels. Thompson also managed municipal rebranding initiative and expanded residents’ engagement through enhanced communications strategies and outreach efforts. Thompson has a Master of Science in Communication from Purdue University and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism, with a minor in Sociology, from the University of Missouri.

In Thompsons new role she will serve as the City’s primary spokesperson, lead citywide communications strategies, oversee media relations, and guide messaging across all platforms. Her annual salary is $120,000. Thompson replaced Rosemaria DiBenedetto who left to take the position of Manhattan Village Administrator.
