The free event will kick off at 11 am with a parade of costumed characters led by members of the Joliet West marching band. This year, the parade route will start at the Will County Office Building, 302 N Chicago Street, head south on Chicago Street, west on Clinton Street, and end on the library’s front lawn.

JTHS 2022 Summa Cum Laude graduates
Joliet Township High School recognized the following seniors from the Class of 2022 who are graduating with Summa Cum Laude honors at the top of their class. Senior students earning this status achieved a cumulative 4.00 grade point average or higher after seven semesters.

Wayne’s Words: Joliet quality water source means economic growth
Joliet has a 100-year agreement with the City of Chicago that caps the cost of future water rates. Included in that agreement, as pointed out here before, is a clause that Chicago cannot sell the water system to a private sector firm. That possibility has reared its head again at a recent Chicago City Council environment committee meeting. The committee voted down a proposed ordinance named “Water for All.” The proposed ordinance included a prohibition on privatizing the water infrastructure. In other words, the Chicago City Council, at least some of them might still want the option of selling the system.

Joliet Township High School Students of the Month are nominated and selected based on character, responsibility, and academic performance or improvement.
Joliet West Symphonic Band performs at Illinois superstate concert band festival
The Symphonic Band submitted recordings in February to a panel of university music educators who selected the bands that would perform at the festival. The band performed in the Krannert Performing Arts Center for a large audience and a panel of highly accomplished university band directors. After their performance, the band was able to hear the two 2019 Honor Bands and the University of Illinois Wind Symphony.
Bicentennial Park Free “Shakespeare and Art in the Park”
This year’s play is “As You Like It,” “Fer sure!” Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (May 19-21) at 7:00 pm, and Sunday (May 22) at 2:00 pm. Audience members are invited to bring blankets and chairs for lawn seating by the pavilion stage. The grounds open one hour before each performance. In case of bad weather, the event will be moved indoors.

The award recognizes a local business that has demonstrated meaningful leadership through corporate social responsibility programs, philanthropy, and volunteerism in our community and at Silver Cross Hospital.
Joliet’s new water study
The Joliet City Council earlier this year unanimously approved a $87 million bond issue, which is a portion of the $810 million project. The City of Joliet will share the costs with members of the Regional Water Commission that includes the communities of Romeoville, Crest Hill, Shorewood, Channahon, and Minooka. Following Joliet, Romeoville would be the next largest water user in the commission.
